Clinical Pilates
Physiotherapist-led small groups at Asquith and Berowra.
Clinical Pilates at Dynamic Motion is a one hour, physiotherapist-led group class running at our Asquith and Berowra clinics. Groups are deliberately small, a maximum of eight at Asquith and six at Berowra, so your physiotherapist can watch how you move and change an exercise mid-class. It is mat based, using bands, straps, balls and rings rather than reformer machines, and everyone starts with a one-to-one physiotherapy assessment.

What makes it clinical
The word clinical is doing real work here. These are physiotherapy sessions that happen to run in a group, not fitness classes with a physiotherapist standing at the front.
Assessed before you start
A one-to-one appointment with a physiotherapist comes first. What you do in class comes out of that assessment, so the exercises match your injury, your history and what you are trying to get back to.
Small enough to be watched
Eight people at Asquith, six at Berowra. Your physiotherapist can see your form and change an exercise while you are doing it, which is the part a large class cannot offer.
Mat based, not reformer
We work on mats with resistance bands, straps, gym balls, rings, foam rollers and the Oov, in the clinic gym rather than a machine studio. If reformer is specifically what you want, we are not the right fit.
Who it’s for
Most people arrive because something hurts, or because they have been told they need to get stronger and are not sure where to start. Your physiotherapist will tell you at the assessment whether a class is the right next step, or whether one-to-one treatment should come first.
Lower back pain
Neck and shoulder pain
Disc injury
Hip and knee pain
Desk and postural strain
Osteoarthritis
Returning to sport after injury
Building strength and control
It also suits people with nothing much wrong who simply want to move better and would rather be supervised than follow a video at home.
What a class is actually like
A class runs for an hour. You work through your own program rather than following the person next to you, with your physiotherapist moving around the room correcting form and adjusting load.
It is a whole body session. Learning to use your core properly is a large part of it, but a strong middle is not much use on its own, so you will work through hips, shoulders and legs as well.
You set the difficulty. Most exercises have an easier and a harder version and your physiotherapist will point you at the right one. Expect to be working, and expect to feel it the next day.
What to bring
Comfortable clothes you can move in, and socks or bare feet.
A towel and a water bottle.
Everything else, mats and equipment included, is already here.
How to join a class
Classes are not bookable online. The pathway is the same for everyone.
01
Book an assessment
Book an initial appointment online, or call your clinic and mention that you’re interested in classes. No referral needed.
02
Chat with our team
Your physiotherapist talks through what you’re after, works out what you need and decides which group fits, including whether a class is the right idea at all yet.
03
We fit you in
Classes aren’t booked online. Your physiotherapist places you in a class that suits you and sorts the times out with you from there.
Private health cover
These run as physiotherapy group consultations, so they are claimable through private health funds that include physiotherapy. What you get back depends on your fund and your level of cover, so it is worth checking with them. The initial assessment is a standard physiotherapy appointment.

Common questions
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book a physiotherapy assessment directly and start from there. If your GP has referred you, bring the referral along, but nothing about joining a class requires one.
Do I have to do an assessment first?
Yes. Everyone starts with a one-to-one physiotherapy appointment before their first class. It is how your physiotherapist works out what you should be doing, what you should be avoiding, and whether a group is the right setting for you yet.
Can I claim it on private health insurance?
Yes, if your cover includes physiotherapy. These run as physiotherapy group consultations, so they are claimable the same way an ordinary physiotherapy appointment is. What you get back depends on your fund and your level of cover, so check with them directly.
Is this reformer Pilates?
No. Our classes are mat based. We use resistance bands, straps, gym balls, rings, foam rollers and the Oov in the clinic gym, rather than reformer machines. If reformer is specifically what you are looking for, we are not the right clinic for it.
I have never done Pilates. Will I be out of my depth?
No. Most exercises have an easier and a harder version, and your physiotherapist will point you at the right one, so a first-timer and someone who has been coming for years can work in the same room. The assessment beforehand means nobody arrives without a plan.
Can I come if I am in pain or recovering from an injury?
Usually, and that is largely what the class is for. Your physiotherapist decides at the assessment whether a group is appropriate now or whether one-to-one treatment should come first. Individual injuries and conditions are worked around, not ignored.
Can I book a class online?
No. Classes are not bookable online. You book the initial assessment, and from there your physiotherapist places you in a class that suits you and sorts out the times with you.
Which clinics run Clinical Pilates?
